Wound Care

HeartlandWoundCareBanner

Chronic or non-healing wounds can be painful, frustrating and in many cases, dangerous. And, some with a non-healing wound may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about seeking help. Steps to Healing on Your Wound Care Journey:

  1. Generally, the physician initially treating your wound will refer you to Heartland Regional for wound care services. You can also make an appointment directly.
  2. When you contact us for your first appointment, our staff will ask a few questions about your wound and your health in general.
  3. Before beginning treatment, the team will evaluate your condition and review your health and medical history.
  4. Tests might be conducted to provide vital details about things like blood flow to the affected area and your nutritional status.
  5. We will also need to determine if there is any infection present.
  6. Together, with your physician, we will develop a treatment program based on our assessment of your special needs. Your program will likely involve regular visits to Heartland Regional for wound care services and your progress will be documented and adjusted as necessary.

Throughout your care journey, we will communicate with your physician and once your wound is healed, you can return to your provider for follow-up care. While receiving wound care services, you may continue getting treatment from other physicians for any related ailments like diabetes and hypertension.
