Q. What is a wellness visit?
A. It's an opportunity for you and your provider to discuss your health history, go over any concerns you may have and review your medications and immunizations.
Q. How often do I need to schedule a wellness visit?
A. It's recommended you schedule a wellness visit once a year.
Q. Why do I need to schedule a wellness visit?
A. Wellness visits help your provider determine what preventative services you may need to help maintain your personal wellness and reduce future health problems.
Q. Is a wellness visit the same as a physical exam?
A. It is not the same thing as a yearly physical exam. During a wellness visit, you will not get screenings, such as blood tests, during this visit. If you are not feeling well or are concerned about a medical problem, you will need to schedule another appointment.
Q. What do I need to bring with me to a wellness visit?
A. You will need to bring a list of your current medications, vitamins and supplements as well as healthcare providers.
Q. What will happen during a wellness exam?
A. You'll talk to your provider about your medical history, risk for certain disease, current state of your health and a plan for staying healthy.
Q. Do I pay for a wellness exam?
A. Based on your Medicare eligibility, Medicare will pay for the Annual Wellness Visit and you will not have an out-of-pocket expense. You might have a copay for some of the screening services and follow-up visits, which is typical for additional services or screenings. During your visit, if you receive additional tests or services not covered under these preventive benefits, you may have a copay and the Part B deductible may apply.
